Cool Trailer: ‘Out There’

Mi-Clos Studio has announced ‘Out There’, a new space-bound gaming endeavor. You can view the teaser video above, which is a tantalizing taste of what’s to come. The trailer teems with graphic novel-inspired visuals, which captures the feel of 70′s space-themed comic books.

Gameplay details are still slim, but a collaboration with FibreTigre (an interactive fiction expert), and Mi-Clos Studio’s first outing, ‘Space Disorder‘ suggest a mixture of multiple genre elements. All that is known as fact is that players will take the role of an astronaut stranded in space trying to find their way back to earth. To do so the player must manage resources, mine planets and probe stars, communicate with exotic civilizations, and craft powerful equipment.

No release date has been announced for ‘Out There’, so everyone is going to have to suck it up and wait for this promising release. In the mean time you can learn more on Mi-Clos Studio’s official website and on Michael Peiffert’s Twitter page.

Cool Trailer: ‘No Time to Explain’

‘No Time to Explain’ appears to be some awesome combination of Douglas Adams’ humor, classic platforming, and immense time paradoxes. The trailer is one of the funniest I have seen in awhile and I was happy to see tinyBuildGAMES game get Greenlit. We at IGAAA definitely appreciate humor and believe in the artistic qualities of humor. Plus, we like to hold our bellies and laugh.

You can learn more about ‘No Time to Explain’ on their official website, Twitter page, and purchase the game for $10. You can also wait until ‘No Time to Explain’ releases on Steam, which I would imagine would be sometime in the near future.

Preview: ‘Paradis Perdus’ by Sergey Mohov

Sergey Mohov is back in action. “Who’s Sergey Mohov?” you ask? He is the guy behind the hit puzzle game ‘Dedale’. Sergey is also a nice guy who says interesting things on the Twitospheres. ‘Dedale’ was a game I greatly appreciated for its simple beauty and subtle complexity, so naturally I was excited when Sergey contacted me to let me know his new game, ‘Paradis Perdus’ (Lost Paradises), is in alpha.

‘Paradis Perdus’ originated as a game made for the French Game Jam “Game à Niaque”, but Sergey and his team have decided to expand on the title and continue work on the game. Sergey is working with some other fellow people from his video game grad school. So, without further ado, here is a trailer of ‘Paradis Perdus’:

‘Paradis Perdus’ is a game about “not belonging”. Players essentially play as an infection, slowly destroying the beautiful world they have been placed into. The ground the player walks on gradually turns from green to orange, orange to red, and red to black, and then disappears completely. The only escape is through collecting three gems and escaping through a portal, which will restore the world to its beautiful original form. Sadly, as soon as a player decides to reenter the colorful landscape, it again begins to dissipate.

The fantastic Unity powered visuals, by artist Fabian Bodet, are accompanied by Matthieu Bonneau’s elegant soundtrack, which becomes distorted as the world falls apart around the player. You can listen to both the healthy version of the soundtrack and the infected version below. The sound manages to lighten a somewhat bleak, although creative message; that perhaps our presence is not always as welcome as we choose to perceive. This challenges our natural assumption in video games that we must save the world and become the hero.

Luckily for you, the alpha version of ‘Paradis Perdus’ is available for download directly from Sergey’s blog for both Windows and Mac. Also, for more on ‘Paradis Perdus’ and Sergey Mohov take a look at Sergey’s blog and make sure to try out Dedale, which you can get on Desura and from the Dedale Official Website. Finally, look back here for a review when the final game is released, as I will old-fashioned Greek wrestle a copy out of Sergey.

This Needs Funding and Has Cool Trailer: ‘Empires at War 1805′

The dudes at ‘Oplon Games’ are sick of the hand-holding of the modern strategy game. They desired to create a turn-based strategy game embracing the player who

“…wants a challenge. One who does not need to learn the game in 5 minutes, and who can plan actions with long term effects. One who prefers the unpredictability of human opponents over artificial intelligence. One who enjoys a historic atmosphere as a background for his game, and loves to see events unfold in either a similar or a very different way that what really happened.”

‘Empires at War 1805′ is their attempt to make that game.

The game is set at the beginning of the Napoleonic Era and covers certain aspects of European history during that time. Each player takes plays as a “national leader of one of the seventeen predominate nations of the era, controlling diplomacy, economy, warfare and colonization”.

Does that tell me it is a game for me? No. I cannot even hold my attention long enough to complete a game of Civ Revolution, but I know some hardcore strategy gamers who would be psyched for something with more depth than the typical strategy release nowadays. It would appear ‘Empires at War’ will be delivering on that style of game.

If you are interested in ‘Empires at War’ go do some scouting at Indie Go Go. There is not much time left in their campaign and they still need about $6,000 in funding. Outside of that, their official website is both informative and well put together.

Cool Trailer: ‘Six-Sided Sanctuary’

‘Six-Sided Sanctuary’ is a puzzle game in which players control a cube with no sides. Players must use the cube to solve obstacles, such as opening gates by pressing switches. All is done while collecting panels to fill in the empty cube.

Learn more at ModDB and upvote it on Steam Greenlight. I will be giving further coverage as the game progresses as I dig the music and concept.

This Needs Funding, but has Art, and a Cool Trailer: ‘Montague’s Mount’

I am a big fan of experiments and have a noted love of ‘Dear Esther’, and I welcome any effort at ingenuity in storytelling. ‘Montague’s Mount’, from developer Polypusher Studios, is a new game which I have officially put on my games to watch list. Not many games get on there. It is an psychological experiment in first person storytelling, taking place on a desolate Irish island. Players take the role of a fisherman stranded on the island encumbered by a leg injury, and must explore a fascinating unknown territory.

‘Montague’s Mount’ attempts a stab at the somewhat stale horror genre, by picking at the more human elements of horror such as the fragility of the mind. All the player has to go on in an old man limping, ship wreckage, and an apparently uninhabited island. But if escape is in the player’s interest, he/she must unveil the secrets of the island.

Polypusher Studios has put ‘Montague’s Mount’ up for funding on Indie Go Go, but there are only 10 days left and it is well short of its funding level. So run over there and check out that page, as it sounds like if there is not more funding the game may not be finished because the world is a cruel cruel place. You can learn more about ‘Montague’s Mount’ at the official website.
